Ooey Gooey Mess: A How-to Guide

'Tis the season for one of my all-time favorite foods: caramel apples. And since I am blessed with such an avid kitchen helper, why not make them from scratch? We gathered all of the caramel makings, plus raisins, mini chocolate chips and festive sprinkles to embellish our apples.

Step 1:
Unwrap a gazillion caramels, while trying not to eat too many.
(I guess this isn't really "from scratch" since we used store bought caramels, but at least we didn't use my old standby, apple wrappers from the produce section at the grocery store.)

Be sure to look awfully adorable doing it! Mommy gives you more samples this way.

Step 2:
While the caramels melt, push popsicle sticks into the center of each apple. You have to push really, really hard. Use all your muscles!

Organize and rearrange the apples to help pass the time while we wait some more.

Step 3:
Finally it's time to dip the apples! Swirl the apple all around in the gooey caramel to coat all sides.
What now?
Step 4:
Decorate your caramely apple. Smoosh as many yummy tidbits into your apple as possible!

Step 5:
Every time Mommy turns her back, sneak a taste. Delish!

Step 6:
Devour the apple! If you are not sure how to go about getting a bite...

...just open up as wide as possible and shove the apple in. Noah can provide a demonstration.

All that yumminess is worth an ooey gooey kitchen and two ooey gooey Boys!

I just bought some apples to try this very thing at our house this week! Looks like you had some sticky fun! :o) We LOVE this time of year, and the excuse to make all the extra yummy treats.
