The First Ever, Sure to Be Annual, Dog Day

Wednesday was Dog Day at The House of Halpin. My sister, Auntie LouLou, had invited O to go on a date to one of his very favorite places to peruse: Pets Mart. And so, in anticipation, we decided to build an entire fun-filled day around their outing.

For breakfast, we feasted on doggy toast.

Then we set to work on baking scrumptious doggy treats for LouLou's puppy, Kirby. This was so much fun that it required its very own post.

We had alerted all of our doggy friends that Wednesday was particularly to celebrate them. They all joined us in the living room for reading time. So many dogs...and one groundhog, "by-cuz groundhog rhymes with dog, Mommy!" Too true, Owie. Too true. Bring on the groundhog!

These are the doggy books we enjoyed. Hairy Maclary is one of our most favorite books of all time.

Finally LouLou and Kirby arrived! Nosy could hardly wait to present Kirb with his homemade doggy cookie.

But a little shyness overcame Nose, so Owie stepped in to lend a hand.

I think he likes it, Guys!

Owie and LouLou headed out on their alone date, leaving behind a fit-throwing Nosy-Pose. "Me go too, Mama!" But I was glad that we stuck to our original plan of giving O and Lou some one-on-one time, especially when O said his favorite part was "the part without Noah." It's good for him to feel special and grown up. Plus, Noah and I got to play a serious game of baseball while they were gone.

After nap, we got down to craft time. I had cut out zillions of Dalmatian spots with which the Boys decorated plain white puppies.

Often, I put a puddle of glue in a cup and let the Boys "paint" it on their pictures. They are much more accurate with their glue application this way, plus it's extra fun to use a paintbrush!

Dog Day was a hit! We all had so much fun! Now O wants to make every day something special. (Today is evidently lion's birthday!) The thing is, every day is extra special, just being able to hang out with my favorite littles all day long. May I never take that for granted. I am blessed beyond measure.

So super fun! Way to go all out w/ the doggy theme! ;o) We're in the middle of learning about "pets" right now, and have a little field trip/ tour in the works to PetSmart ourselves. It's the little things in life!
