As a part of our Colorado CuzFest Unit in summer school, each cousin was to craft in their own special way one of Colorado's state symbols (state flower, insect, flag, etc). Once we all got together at CuzFest, we would paste the collection of art into a bound book to present to Grammy Lulu and Grampa B as a special memory of our time together. I was excited to see how each child would interpret the state symbols, which symbols piqued their interests and what forms of art they would use to create the symbol. I was not disappointed! There were fluffy Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, tissue paper hairstreak butterflies, a beautiful sketch of the state flower, the columbine, and a whole page ode to the Denver mint.
What grabbed Owen's attention, you might wonder. The state fossil, of course! A stegosaurus. How were to craft an entire stegosaurus? The only idea we came up with was to make a dinosaur cake. Cake, my friends, is never a bad idea! So bake a cake we did, and I snapped pictures of each step to include in Grammy and Grampa's special book.
It may look rather gloppy and disgusting, but that cake tasted just fine. And what a fun way to learn a bit more about the state of Colorado.
By the way, Grammy Lulu and Grampa B loved their Colorado book. It turned out great!
